Instagram Launching Live “Events” Video Channel

Along with viewing your friends’ photos and videos in your feed, or checking out what’s popular on across app, Instagram is adding a new “Live Events” video channel that streams, well, events. Live.

The channel will live in the Explore section of the app, Instagram says, and will showcase videos from concerts, sports games, and other live events that users may be interested.

On that note, no two users will see the same lineup of videos in the channel, Instagram says. Which means that while one person might like seeing Aaron Rodgers talk about his latest triumph over football adversity, someone else would rather livestream a video of a Taylor Swift concert.

Thus far, the update to Explore is only available to U.S. users, but Instagram says it’s working on rolling it out to the rest of the world soon.

This isn’t an entirely new concept, obviously, as social media sites and apps are increasing becoming more and more alike. Instagram’s parent company Facebook, for one, lets both users and brands alike create live videos of whatever they’re doing to share with their friends and followers.
