Pizza Hut knows that many Americans will be glued to various screens this summer, watching their team compete in the Rio Olympics. All that cheering and patriotism can be hungry work, so Pizza Hut has come up with an answer: a two-foot long pizza in a patriotic box.
The Big Flavor Dipper pizza will feature a red, white, and blue “Go USA!” box and will be available for $12.99 starting July 18, “just in time to cheer on America this summer during the world’s biggest sporting event,” otherwise known as the Olympics, though Pizza Hut never uses that word in its press release
There is also a “USA edition sauce set” — Marinara, California Ranch, Texas Honey BBQ and New York Buffalo —— which is ostensibly patriotic because there are state names in the titles of three of them (?).
The only thing bigger than the excitement around the Olympics? Pizza Hut’s desire to get a piece of that pie.
“The excitement Americans have around being part of something bigger is rivaled only by our enthusiasm to be a part of their celebration this summer,” said Dave Timm, chief marketing officer, Pizza Hut. “The sauces bring a new level of variety to an already big pizza.”
